The real time Operational database manages the business aspect of the facility. The Operational database has the real time inventory for the facility; with that inventory being updated by the SCADA system as product is received, processed, and shipped. The Operational database provides the real time logistics information for receiving product and shipping product; including functions like handing railcar release notifications, railcar bad order notifications, and producing Bills of Lading for truck shipments. The Operational database typically has no financial information, that is, there are no dollar signs attached to any of the information used in the database.

Driftwood Technology uses the Microsoft Visual Studio VB/C# and Microsoft SQL Server products to develop Operational databases.

Driftwood Technology develops the Operational database (schema, user interface, and reports) to suit the operational needs of the facility. For corporations with multiple facilities, the database is designed to have a common “corporate” approach to processes, while being configurable to handle the variation in how processes work at each facility. This dual design approach of “configurable standard” minimizes training and long term support costs across multiple facilities; but doesn’t box the facility into a corner (the “SAP Effect”).
